Sunday Talk 3/28/2021

 Good morning brothers and sisters.

• • Dobro jutro braće i sestre.

• Looking with anticipation to the next general conference in April, I wanted to focus today on a talk from the last general conference. Elder Jeffery R. Holland's talk "Waiting on the Lord."

• Taking the time to go back and review the words of the modern day prophet and the apostles is something I would recommend everyone to do.
• • preporučio bih da provjerite i pregledate riječi našeg živućeg proroka i apostola.

•  How often do you learn anything from only reviewing it once? From past experience, I can surely say, you don't.

• When going back and reading Elder Holland's talk, I was reminded of what I learned the first time I read it, and again, I learned new things.
• • Kada sam ja pregledao govor od Starješine Holland-a, podsjetio me je onoga što sam učio prvi put koji sam ga čitao, i opet, učio sam nove stvari.

•  As we study the words of the prophets and apostles, we will always learn something new and get answers to questions we have.
• • dok proučavamo riječi proroka i apostola, uvijek ćemo učiti nešto novo i dobiti odgovore na pitanja koje imamo.

• Recently, I have been studying In Alma 14.
• • Nedavno, proučavao sam u Almi 14.

•  Here we learn about how a righteous people are killed by fire. With that I wondered, why do bad things happen to good people? Why do bad things happen at all?
• •  Ovdje, učimo kako su pravedni ljudi bili ubijeni vatrom. S time, pitao sam se, zašto dobre ljudi iskuse loše stvari? zašto uopšte postoje loše stvari?

• During these hard times, I find these very applicable. With COVID, lockdown, sickness, death. On top of those, personal issues; financial situation, love, mental health.
• • tokom ovih teških vremena, pitam se ove iste stvari. pogotovo zbog COVID-a, lok-down, bolesta, i smrti. Uz te, osobne probleme: financija situacija, ljubav, mentićki zdrav.

•  I, along with many others, are praying for these challenges to pass. I am sure we are all asking, "when will everything go back to normal?"

• Elder Holland said, "there will be times in our lives when even our best spiritual effort and earnest, pleading prayers do not yield the victories for which we have yearned, whether that be regarding the large global matters or the small personal ones."

• I promise to you that God always listens to our prayers, but sometimes he answers in ways contradictory to how we want. Sometimes, his answers go unnoticed.

• When we pray to God for help, if we expect him to answer, we should expect ourselves to be willing to act on his answer.

•  Like it says in the Bible: "Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead,"

• Often times his answers will be taking us out of our comfort zone. His answers will have us try something new, view the situation from a different perspective, or even his answer will tell us to stop what we are doing.

•  This does not mean that when things get hard, we give up. It means we give up the things of man.

• I have found myself praying for things only for myself, sometimes for things that are of no worth, let's say; things of man.

• One thing I have learned in my life is that when I pray selfishly, I usually won't get what I want.

• I have learned that when we pray, we must align our will with God's, view things from his perspective. When we do this, our prayers become more sincere and of more value. Our desires change, we want to help those around us. It changes how we live.
Kada to činimo, naše molitve postaju iskrenije. Naše želje promjene, želimo pomoći onima oko nama. Promjeni kako živimo.

• Again, I add Elder Holland's words: "Sooner or later we learn that the times and seasons of our mortal journey are His and His alone to direct."

• As God guides us through the gift of the Holy Ghost, we learn to rely on Him. He wants us to succeed and to be happy and he will do what he can to help us grow and progress.
On želi da uspiješimo i da budemo sretnim i On će činiti sve ono što može da nam pomaže odrasti i napredovati.

• However, sometimes we don't rely on him the way we should. If you have a friend who you love and you try so hard to make happy, how would you feel, if the only time they talk to you, is when they need help and nothing outside of that?
Kako biste se osjećali ako on govori s vama samo kada on treba pomoć i ništa osim toga.

• We need to rely on God and pray to him in all times.

• Times when we are happy, sad, mad, frustrated, impatient, excited, or full of joy.
• • trenutke kada smo sretni, tužni, ludi, frustrirani, nestrpljivi, uzbuđeni, ili puni radosti.

•  We shouldn't only talk to God when life gets hard. He is your friend, share with him your joys, tell him about your life. The small moments that made you smile and the moments that made you laugh.

• along with the hardships; the moments you were heart broken or the times you needed a friend.

• He loves to hear from each and every one of his children. Doing this will bring you great comfort.
• • On voli čuti o životima svih Njegovih djeca. Čineći ovo će vam donositi utjehu.

• You will feel God's love for you through all moments of your life. As you reflect over your life with God, you will begin to understand why God has put you through the difficult challenges. You will recognize God's hand in your life when before, it wasn't so obvious.
• • osjećat ćete Božju ljubav prema vama kroz sve trenutke vašeg života. Dok pričate s Bogom o vašem životu, počet ćete razumijeti zašto vam Bog daje teškoće. Prepoznat ćete Božje ruke u vašem životu kada prije, nije bilo preočito.

• We must do all these things with faith. Faith that what the scriptures, prophets, and apostles have told us; that we will find peace.

• Elder Holland shares, "the point is that faith means trusting God in good times and bad, even if that includes some suffering until we see His arm revealed in our behalf."

• The title of Elder Holland's talk is "Waiting on the Lord." However, I find comfort in thinking "waiting WITH the Lord."
• • Ime govora jest "Čekati Gospodina." Međutim, volim misliti da čekamo s gosopodinom.

• The Lord will always be with us. If we turn to him he will help us and give us comfort in all of our afflictions.
• • Uvijek će biti gospodina s nama. Ako se krenimo Njemu, On će nam pomoći i dati utjehu u svim našim nevoljima.

• In Alma 7: 11-12 it says "And he shall go forth, suffering pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind; and this that the word might be fulfilled which saith he will take upon him the pains and the sicknesses of his people.
• • U Almi 7: 11-12, kaže " 11 I on će ići, trpeći boli i nevolje i iskušenja svih vrsta; i to da bi riječ mogla biti ispunjena koja kaže da će on uzeti na se boli i bolesti naroda svojega.

* 12 And he will take upon him death, that he may loose the bands of death which bind his people; and he will take upon him their infirmities, that his bowels may be filled with mercy, according to the flesh, that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities."

• Christ suffered every type of pain. He understands the hardships we go through.
• • Krist je trpjeo sve vrste boli. On razumije sve teškoće kroz koje prođemo

•  The time you failed a test; the time you broke your arm; the time you lost a loved one; the guilt you felt from sin.
• • taj put kada ste pali ispit; taj put kada ste slomili vašu ruku; taj put kada ste izgubili osobu kojeg volite; krivnja koje ste osjećali iz grijeha.

• He has experienced it all and more. All so that he can comfort you and lift you up when you need help.

• So why would God let his beloved son, Jesus Christ, experience all this pain? Love. It is because of God's perfect love for each of his children.

• Moroni 8: 16 "for perfect love casteth out all fear."
• •  Moroni 8: 16 "savršena ljubav odbacuje svaki stah."

• There will be times in our life where we feel we are out of the reach of hope. Fear begins to overwhelm us, sometimes when we are being faithful.
• • Bit će trenutaka u našim životima kada se osjećamo beznadno. strah nas počne zasuti, ponekad čak i kada smo vjerni

• Sometimes we often think that because we are doing everything right, we shouldn't be experiencing challenges in life, we should have a life without worry and fear. right?

• "My beloved brothers and sisters, Christianity is comforting, but it is often not comfortable," explains Elder Holland, "The path to holiness and happiness here and hereafter is a long and sometimes rocky one."
• • "Moja ljubljena braćo i sestre, kršćanstvo je utješno, no često nije udobno," objasni Starješina Holland, "Put do svetosti i sreće ovdje i nakon ovog života dugačak je i ponekada stjenovit."

• We go through these challenges so we can grow, develop Christ-like attributes, and become like our father in heaven.
• • prolazimo kroz ove teškoće kako bismo mogli odrasti, razviti Kritove osobine, i postati poput našeg oca u nebu.

• Without these experiences, we would not be able to progress, our life on earth would be without purpose.

• Trials are essential for our eternal progression, and it is okay to be afraid.

• These trials will not be easy to overcome. We will experience feelings of hopelessness, despair, and loneliness.
• • ovi izazovi neće biti lako prevladati. iskusit ćemo osjecaje beznađa, oćajanje, i usamljenosti

• That is all normal. Don't feel like you're doing something wrong if you experience any these things. It is a part of life.
• •  To je normalno. Nemojte misliti da činite nešto pogrešno ako iskusite ovih stvari. to je dio života.

• However, the times where we begin to fear, are the times we need to remember we are not alone.

• Jesus Christ is with us, the Holy Ghost will comfort us. Because of God's perfect love for us, He will always be with us.

• As we develop our relationship with God, by relying on him and talking to him no matter what situation we are in, we can feel his perfect love even more abundantly each day.

•  I promise you that He lives and knows you. Because of him we can find joy in our darkest hour and in our happiest moments. We can overcome fear and trial.
Možemo prevladati strah i izazove.

•  I have seen this in my life. I have seen it in the lives of others. I leave these things with you, in the name of our savior, Jesus Christ, Amen.
• •  Vidim ovo u mom životu. vidim ovo u životima drugih. Ostavljem ove stvari s vama u ime našeg spasitelja, Isus Krist, Amen.

What do you call a dog in the shower holding a salt shaker?

So this week was probably the first week for quite a while that we had a normal week. Nothing crazy happened, just taught some English classes and taught the usual people of the week and such. Nothing crazy. The only thing that kind of sucks is that covid here is bonkers. We've heard from people that Sarajevo has some of the most covid cases in all of Europe. I really don't know of that's true but we've heard it a lot. Either way its kinda spooky. So we are meeting more online so we might be grinding for a 'lil bit.

This coming week we are going Banja Luka again which should be fun. I hope that we will get chances to talk with people so I can get better at the language. It can be kind of hard to learn the language better when i don't hear it or speak it a ton because of online stuff. So I am going to keep working and praying for more chances to practice. I must say the power of prayer is incredible. The times in the past I have prayed for opportunities to practice the language, I've received some pretty awesome answers. For me, one of the biggest parts of prayer and finding answers is the finding. You gotta go out and seek it yourself, if you just sit and wait usually you wont get a whole lot of answers. Anywho hope all is well!

Fluffy Guys

What's up y'all. So this week was pretty fun.

So basically the week was pretty normal and nothing too crazy. It was filled with a lot of practice for our radio interview on Saturday. It was so cool when it happened too. We went into the radio booth and it had all the lights and stuff and I never really pictured that I would be in a radio station in Bosnia, like ever. So that was way cool. We just talked about our service group we created here in Sarajevo and how we want to help in the community! My comp is very good at the language so he answered most of the questions while I answered about two or three but I did pretty well! Of course there is always room to improve but I was just happy for the chance to talk on the radio haha. We got to choose a song to play during the middle of our interview and we chose "Humble and Kind" so that was awesome haha! They also told us at the end of the interview that they would tell their partners in national TV about us so maybe we will be able to go on TV too!

Outside of that we had some sauce with missionary work and an awesome Pday. We did some hike stuff in the snow and it was soo much fun! It literally feels like we are on Hoth sometimes. Also there were a ton of dogs there so we got to hang with some fun dogs too!

Anywho, hope all is well ill send some pictures soon.

Weaklee

Okaye soo hear iz da weaklee eemayle.

sorry that was literally so dumb, I thought that would be fun to type like that but now looking back I'm realizing its just dumb haha.

So nothing really crazy happened this week. Some highlights are that we taught a new student English which is fun because he doesn't know a whole lot so we have to teach in language which is something i haven't had to do yet because most people here who are learning English know it pretty well already. Besides that we had an opportunity to do service which was great, we were just cleaning out a backyard of an apartment complex and we were about 2 hours in when the people who lived at the apartment place started to get super mad for some reason so the lady we were working with told us we could just head home so we did and we just heard them yelling at each other for a good while it was funny. She texted us later and everything was good.

We had a lesson with one of our friends where we read a scripture together and i tried to share a thought on a scripture and the words for "to write" and "to piss" are very similar. "to write" is "napisati" and the other is "napišati" (š is pronounced with a "sh") so i made that mistake during the lesson and it was hilarious, hopefully i never do that again. Love this language.

Then we had toastmasters which was way fun and i did pretty well that time so that was a nice confidence booster too especially after the lesson.

UPCOMING
so upcoming basically we have an interview on the radio (which i think i mentioned last week) which will be on Saturday so that should be a ton of fun.

Anywho I will send some fun pictures.

What if the world was literally made of like really tiny blocks

Okay so this week was kind of a roller coaster. So we started by driving up to Tuzla, which is like a 2 hour drive, and so we got some very nice naps on the drive hahah. While there we met with a bunch of people. One of which was someone I met on my Facebook page named Džemal (pronounced jemal) who is literally the greatest guy ever! He is like 72 but when we met, he was the most energetic guy and so fun! It was really nice because he keep complimenting our language ability (my companion is a LOT better than me). He would say "you've only learned for that long? BRAVO!" It was a real confidence booster since I've been feeling down about my language. He hikes like 6 hours a day and love just doing active stuff. We plan to meet with him when we go to Tuzla again so I really look forward to that. We also met with one of our friends from Toastmasters (weekly activity to practice foreign language) and he is the funniest guy I have ever met. Also while in Tuzla we checked out two humanitarian activities our senior couple was doing there: funding a new water tank for a silo and a new bakery to feed the hungry. While at the Bakery opening, we had lunch with the mayor of Tuzla which was cool and a lot of other people from this service group called Merhamet. We got in contact with two of the people who are the heads of Banja Luka and Tuzla so we hope to do service stuff with them.

After that we came back to Sarajevo and met with some people who are in the scouts of Bosnia to see if we could set up any service opportunities together which seems pretty promising. During that meeting I got a little roasted for my language hahah (so ups and downs this week) so that was a bummer, but tis what happens. Then we have also been preparing for an interview on the radio with one of the most famous radio stations in Sarajevo. They want an interview because of our service page we created called Služimo! Sarajevo. Basically a little service group we created to allow us to offer volunteer service and allow other people to join/ask for service. So that will be a lot of fun. We are going to have a member with us to help make sure we don't butcher anything on the radio (language-wise and just anything-wise).

OOH another fun thing this week was that we got Audited twice haha which is basically when the branch presidency (us) gets checked on our financial stuff to make sure everything is in line. It lasted like 4 hours so that was fun.

Then a little sickness went around so we had to quarantine for the remainder of the week pretty much which meant a lot of Facebook work which is okay. There was a LOT more stuff to be happy about.

Anywho Lijep pozdrav.

Split Baptism

Hello! This week was pretty good! Nothing crazy eventful at the beginning. Found and met some cool people to teach online and did some ser...
